The synchronous response is a alphanumeric handle to the Asynch request sent. however the handle does not guarantee that the request was successful.

Exception handling Notes
The futureProcessor that accepts a Future object of CreateInvalidationResult type; will result in either a valid response or throw an ExecutionException.
In the case of a connection problem, the nested cause would be AmazonClientException and if there is a fault in the connection configuration the cause would be a AmazonServiceException.
